Frequently Asked Questions
+ What are the advantages of laser hair removal?
There are several benefits gained with laser hair removal, including freedom from shaving, plucking, or waxing.
Having smoother skin enables a person to reduce time spent grooming while simultaneously increasing their satisfaction with their appearance.
Further advantages of laser hair removal include:
Precision: Lasers target hair in the follicle while leaving surrounding tissue undisturbed. Speed: Depending on the size of the treatment area, laser treatment may take just a couple of minutes.
Predictability: Laser devices have been extensively studied and improved over the years. Patients can expect to notice results after their very first treatment.
+ How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal is a precision process that eliminates hair by halting the growth process from the root.
During laser treatment, light from the device enters the hair follicles.
This light transforms to heat immediately upon penetrating the skin’s surface. Heat gets absorbed by the pigment in hair, which vaporizes the part of the hair strand that is in the follicle. Additionally, heat gets absorbed into the walls of the follicle, disabling it.
Through a series of treatments, new segments of hair are vaporized and the follicles are further impaired, losing their capacity to produce new hairs.
+ How Many Sessions Will It Take To Remove Unwanted Hair?
Although laser hair removal is designed for the permanent reduction of unwanted hair, most patients will need more than one treatment to achieve the desired results.
Because all hair is not in the same stage of growth at any given time, it is recommended to have between three and five laser hair removal treatments, spaced four to eight weeks apart.
Typically, a series of six sessions is required. The number of sessions will depend on the amount of hair treated, your skin type, and the area being treated.
For example, facial hair generally requires more than six treatments because it is usually thinner and lighter.
+ Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
At the conclusion of a course of treatment, hair follicles have very little, if any, ability to produce hair. This function does tend to return at some point. However, when hair growth resumes, it is significantly limited. Not all hair follicles regain integrity.
Most often, a person notices a few hairs growing here and there. When hair growth recurs, touch-up treatment can once again halt the new hair growth cycle.
+ Does laser hair removal hurt?
Laser treatments are typically quite tolerable.
Patients may experience a mild snapping sensation as strands of hair are vaporized. These sensations are momentary.
The more general sensation that may occur during treatment is a wider-spread warmth beneath the skin. Most patients do not describe their process as painful.
+ What are the possible side effects?
At SKIN Medical Spa we take risks very seriously.
We will not perform laser treatments if you have recently been exposed to the sun, are on certain medications or have other skin issues. Lasers are noted to cause redness and minor skin irritation. This is typical after a procedure.
SKIN Medical Spa has two of the leading lasers for hair removal used for all skin types. Our RN on staff will discuss risks and benefits at length with you prior to your procedure.
